Wow. All of this is was pretty amazing. Two things.

In Swaffham, Norfolk Impson’s Butcher’s ‘Traditional Sausage’ is peppery sausage heaven

You saw Nero - I saw Prince Louis. Now do admit.

If anyone ever invites you to their ‘cottage’ in Canada, the experience is very similar.

I feel this is about to become a very sausage-based thread - meant to add this to your IG post but didn't get round to it: Lidl. Seriously, especially the chipolatas. Dense and meaty, no filler, enough fat. I suspect this might be what Alan was looking for, with his cri de coeur.

What ho Sophia. May I add another banger to the list? I’ve been buying my venison sausages from Clive Downs in Porlock, Exmoor, for 30 years. Worth the 4.5hr drive from London alone!

Much closer to home, if you like a spicy sausage, ask the Hungry Guest butchers in Petworth to make you up some sausages using their sausage roll mix, I had some at their summer party and OMG, they are so delicious!

I’ve not seen the original Gladiator; there, I’ve said it. For a supermarket sausage, I recently tried ‘the Great British Banger’ from M&S and they were lovely. Also Green Pastures Farm in Lancashire do them without a load of suspect fillers and do nitrite-free bacon.

If you want more on America, you can also try Planet America, which is very informative, often funny, and comes in two flavours - on ABC iView (which may be geoblocked - this is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation), and a podcast run by one of the people in the telly show and an academic. They aren't the same, and I must admit to preferring the TV show; some things just work better with pictures.
